Storm Over Scandinavia - Narvik (4)

Narvik - The Battle for Norway Turns 8 - 15

German forces call off their attack on Oslo, which was not a strategic objective
and wasted much time, Oslo strongly fortified before and after the attack
Turn 8: 6 - 9 May 1940 - Southern Norway reinforced - HMS Ark Royal lost

German 3-5 Mountain units land at Arundel with a further
3-4 regiment at Kristiansand

Polish forces attack German infantry from the rear, but
with little success apart from a distraction
Turn 9: 10- 13 May 1940 - French Army destroyed at Stavanger

Narvik continues to be threatened but the Norwegian
garrison holds firm for the time being

Stavanger is retaken by the Axis forces and the French
Foreign Legion totally destroyed
Turn 10: 14- 17 May 1940 - Allies endeavour to redress balance in the South

Stavanger to the North and Kristiansand to the South. British forces, including a HQ unit, along with Norwegian
forces attack Kristiansand. Norwegians suffer a disruption. German forces in centre also disrupted by air attack
Turn 11: 18 - 21 May 1940 - Artillary put ashore at Kristiansand

More reinforcements for Axis forces as artillary regiments
are put ashore at Kristiansand

Overall veiw of the southern tip of Norway and the Allied
forces still trying to threaten

German forces safely ashore, they will explore the weakness
of the Norwegian & British forces on their doorstep

Andalsnes is attacked, German artillary regiments lost, along
with most of the French forces defending it (3 x 3-5 Mountain)
Turn 12: 22 - 25 May 1940 - Kristiansand retaken by Allies
Following a concerted attack, Kristiansand is finally retaken by
the Allies, and German artillary regiments are forced to retreat
A close-up of the action, and the capture of the 3-capacity
airfield. Southern Norway still threatened by air from Denmark
Turn 13: 26 - 29 May 1940 - French & Norwegian units defeated at Andulsnes
Adalsnes attacked again by 9-5 German artillary unit, result HX (half-exchange) and unit reduced to 3-4. Allied units lost

German infantry units withdraw from the Kristiansand area
as British and Norwegian units consolidate

Narvik under attack once again, however, Allies manage to
hold on, but only just. Polish forces prove ineffective
Turn 14: 30 May - 2 June 1940 - Namsos occupied, Narvik and Bergen under pressure

The unopposed landings at Namsos, a port ignored by both
Allies and Axis forces until now.
Namsos, unprotected is occupied byt German forces, a 14-4 artillary regimnet rebuilt after unopposed landing, achieving one of its strategic objectives without a fight.

Attck on Trondheim, sssembly point 12 in bottom left of picture results in a loss of 3 x 3-5 (mot) infantry (HX result) to Axis, but losses of two Allied units gives an advantage to a possible German assault in the next and last turn>

Bergan and Narvik, more Axis attacks leaves Norwegian forces disrupted after failed attacks inb the friendly turn. Both ports now in danger of being lost.

German 3rd Mountain Battalion attacked by air at Bergen and disrupted by Skua's flown from the Shetland Islands at the far extreme of their range.

Axis make final preparations from lightening strikes at weakened Norwegian forces in a last ditch attempt to gain some of their primary objectives before it is too late.

The fight for Narvik continues, and still the Norwegians
hang on to that illusive objective, with Poles close behind

Finally the Norwegians are subdued and now Narvik is in
serious danger for the next and final turn

Bergen continues to be under attack and has survived air
raids up until now, elements of the 3rd Mountain attack

Forces at Bergen begin to weaken and are disrupted at the
end of turn 14. Danger now looms for Norwegians.
Turn 15: 3 - 6 June 1940 - Narvik falls

Narvik finally occupied by Axis forces, and proved a very difficult objective - Stavanger, Andalsnes and
Namsos also held by Axis forces. The Allies managed to hang on to Kristiansand, Bergen and Trondheim

Disrupted Allies retreat as Germans occupy Narvik

Poles to the East unable to change the course of history
