Feb I 1941 Turn - Italian Offensive

- 3 Mountain divsions attack Greek and British divisions/brigades with 6 squadrons of fighters and fighter/bombers. Die-roll 3 on a 1:1 ratio attack - result AR (attacker retreats), however, had to retreat 3 hexes to avoid ZOC (zone of control) by other Greek units, and stacking limits by its own units. The Italian occupation of Greece by one unit has now ben quashed.

Greek Phase

- Joint Greek/British strategic bombing raid by three squadrons on Albanian coast road - result 'Hit'.

- A 1-6 brigade, 2-6 artillary regiment and a 1-8 anti-aitcraft battalion on its way to Sarjavo, which at the moment is undefended.
- Zagreb is well defended with two divisions, artillary and an anti-aircraft battery.

GERMAN INTERVENTION IS TRIGGERED FOR FIRST CLEAR WEATHER TURN

Italian forces endeavour to keep Greeks and British at
bay, driving them back to the Greek border.

Joint Greek/British strategic bombing raid by three squadrons
on Albanian coast road - result 'Hit'.

Greece had reinforced its second line of defence with
a row of fortifications right across the country

Yugoslav preparation, the main forces to north and east,
with Beograd behind the eastern front

The defence of Beograd, soon to receive reinforcements,
consists of strong infantry divisions, heavy bombers for
air cover and engineers

The Banat (top centre), Backa (The Backa consists of the area adjacent to the Hungarian border, bounded by the first rivers encountered, containing Subotica and Novi Sad.), and Baranja.

Feb II 1941 Turn - Italian Offensive

- A construction engineer moved to repair road between Vlore and Greek border
- Corfu is attacked again by 3x 3-4-6 (xx) Italian divisions - result is HX (Half exchange). Greek units are eliminated and the Italians loose a division.
- 1:1 ratio attack by 3 mountain divisions with 6 squadrons of aircraft on Greek and British divisions and brigades. Die-roll 5 on 1:1 chart = NE (No effect)

Greek Phase

- No Greek ground offensive this turn, but Albanian coast road is bombed successfully again, this will take some time to repair as the Italians only have one engineer unit in the area.

Mar I 1941 Turn - Italian Offensive

- Mountain divisions attack Greek divisions again in central southern Albania: die-roll '5' (NE) No effect.
- Reinforcements arrive including engineers, 1 engineer dispatched to help repair road but does not have enough MP's (movement points) to reach it as it is across a mountain hex - will reach it on next turn.

Greek Phase

- British reinforcements move north after disembarkation at Pereus.
- Air Phase: Greek 2-B-2 and British 3-NB-3 Night bomber run sorties to attack Albanian coast road, but with no sucess.
- Once again, the Greek Army launches no further ground offensives.
- Metaxis Line being extended across Greece, nearly complete.

Campaign Game - Operation Marita, the invasion of Greece

GERMAN INTERVENTION

Mar II 1941 Turn - German Offensive (1) Special Invasion Turn

- Clear weather die-roll, - means that German Intervention will take place this turn.
- German forces take Special Invasion Turn (no exploitation phase).
- At the end of the special invasion turn the newly built fortresses across central Greece breached in two places near Thessalonike by three Panzer divisions and two seige artillary. (Greek forces caught by surprise and are still in Albania).

German Offensive (2) Normal Turn

- Panzer divisions press forward and overrun Larissa Airbase with the loss of Greece's only fighter/bomber squadron.

Hungarian Offensive

- Hungarian border troops attack Yugoslav borders in the north, 11 units lost, mainly border guards.

German Panzer divisions spill across the Greek border and
breach the undefended fortresses near Thessalonike

Unstoppable, the Panzer divisions supported by infantry
successfully attack the airbase at Larissa

Greek Phase - Defensive

- British and air squadrons moved from Volos to Athens.
- Britsh tank brigade moved north to face 3 full Panzer divisions (11-10 & 12-10 strengths)
- Greek Army withdrawn from Albania to defend Central Greece

Greek Phase - Offensive

- 9-10 SS infantry division attacked on a 2:1 ratio, die-roll '6', defender retreats 2 hexes to avoid Greek ZOC (zone of control).

Strategic mission is a success and the road is blown-up.

Rule 30(D) is waived as alluded to earlier, and the Greek Army may move forces west of the Axios River and leave the Metaxis Line undefended if it wishes.

With Larissa airbase now occupied by Axis forces, British
(light coloured tiles) and Greek forces go on the offensive.
Note 5-6 Greek units containing the attack in the west

Strategic bombing by Allied forces blocks the main east coast
road so that further Axis forces will be hampered from entering
central Greece. Greek northern forces to assist
Apr I 1941 Turn - German Offensive

Hungarian Offensive

- Further occupation of Northern Yugoslavia (the Baranja and the Backa in north eastern Yugoslavia).

Greek Turn

- Greeks reoccupy Larissa after it was vacated by retreating Panzer divisions.
- Greeks also form a secondary defensive line west of Volos, there is a fort south-west of Volos which should help the defence of, latterly, Athens itself.

Further occupation of Northern Yugoslavia by hostile Hungarian forces (the Baranja and the Backa in north eastern Yugoslavia).
Apr II 1941 Turn - German Offensive

- Ground offensive in Greece imparts heavy toll on Greek defenders: 3 divisions, 2 brigades and 5 regiments lost. German losses include SS motorized infantry division, a 5-8 mountain division and an 8-6 infantry. Plus one seige artillary (2-1-10) and one artillary regiment (1-2-8). Not too bad considering gains in mainland Greece.
- In the north the Axis continues to infiltrate Yugoslavia pregressing towards Beograd. The Italians contiunue to enter from the north-west.

Apr II 1941 Turn - Greek Offensive

- British and Commonwealth reinforcements arrive to help defend Athens, which is still under strength. Athens is further strengthened in Movement Phase with two extra divisions and support.

- Three Axis formations attacked, two German and one Italian. Largely unsuccessful, resulting in retreats (in a 1:1 ratio) and the loss of a 3-8 light infantry division and one 1-2-6 artlillary brigade (both to the Italians on the south western coast of Albania)

Victory Points

Axis Forces are now in the advantage with 113 VP's to 94 for the first time in the game.

into western Greece

The Italians (gray-green tiles) in the west and the ever-strong
