About
Russian Front.... This
is the game of the War in the East: 1941-1944. On June 22, 1941 the 'Blitzkrieg'
was unleashed on the Soviet Union. Initial operations engulfed the entire front,
and by late in the year German forces had overrun the Ukraine and were at the
gates of Moscow and Leningrad.
The onset of severe winter weather and
Soviet counterattacks and defensive measures finally halted these drives and regained
some ground. The year 1942 saw Axis forces drive all the way to Stalingrad, only
to be surrounded and destroyed there by another Soviet winter counter offensive.
In 1943 the weakened Germans were repulsed at Kursk and the start of the 'Russian
Steamroller' offensives that, during the next year-and-a-half, drove the Axis
forces from the soil of 'Mother Russia'. |

is a game that re-creates the ebb and flow of the largest, longest and most costly
military campaign of World War II.
The game covers the vast theater of
operations and the massive forces employed by the Soviet Union and by Nazi Germany
and her allies. Only this time, you are in command of alternate scenarios, that
start in May or June 1941, in 1942, and 1943, or the Grand campaign from 1941-45.
The
Basic rules allow players to quickly start playing the game and mastering the
system. The Advanced and Optional rules allow players to choose the levels of
complexity and detail that they enjoy.
The Soviet player has a number
of defensive options and these need to be explored to the full. Stepped losses
help with the fluidity of the game and ensure that continuity and realistic losses
are reflected. |

Strategy The
game is a tough one for the Russians, as the country is attacked with overwhelming
force by the aggressors, quick early wins and much gained territory by Axis forces
will be inevitable.
What
the Soviet player needs to do is quickly organise strong pockets of resistance
in places such as Kiev and Oddessa. Moscow is vulnerable but a good defensive
line above the Pripet Marshes will stem the tide - eventually! |
